Whitley Neill Gin Tasting
Like that old saying “you wait ages for a London bus and then two come along at once,†so it was with our meet the distiller events. Following a long wait between hosting Williams Chase just before the festive season and kicking off Easter weekend playing host to the guys from Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Bathtub Gin, we then got our small bar ready for Johnny Neil and his Witley Neil range of gin two weeks later on the 15th April. What’s unique about Johnny? Well Johnny can perhaps lay claim to having gin literally flowing through his veins because he’s related to the famous Greenall’s gin family and a quick glance at his family tree will indeed show that he can trace his lineage right back to Thomas Greenall who founded the eponymous brand back in 1762. Johnny’s family’s association ended though in the 1970’s but it wasn’t long before Johnny himself decided to branch out on his own and have a go at producing a line of gin that has since gone on to win many awards. Two gins were tasted on the night, his South African inspired London dry and a London dry gin that he hopes to have hitting our shelves soon. The whole evening was fascinatingly informative from a man who really knows about the art of making an amazing gin.
