About Us

Here is just a little info to let you get to know us better...

History

Here is little potted history of our pub and the local area... if you have a spare minute or two and maybe a cup of tea (or is that a G&T), we think it's well worth read.

Our Crew

As our crew come on board, well be adding them here so you can get to know some faces...

Front of house

Adam

Manager

Adam and Cheslea (our Senior Deputy) moved down from Scotland to join us at the Barn Owl, along with their two Jack Russels, Terry and Lotti, who you may find about the pub, saying hello to anyone who will give them some love.

Adam has been running pubs since he was 25, having found his passion for people and looking after everyone, something we love about him. Along with hospitality, whisky is his passion, and he claims to have been to 90% of Scotland’s whisky distilleries (we dare you to quiz him at the bar on this fact). When asked what his favourite whisky is, he told us ‘that’s an impossible question to answer’. We are still hoping to get the answer one day.

He boasts an eclectic music taste, from 60’s rock’n’roll to 2010’s pop, and with a specific passion for country music, you’ll understand where the soundtrack to life at the Barn Owl comes from. Playing guitar since 12 years old, he promises to play a tune or two if enough whisky has flowed here at the Barn Owl.

Chelsea

Senior Deputy Manager

Chelsea is our Senior Deputy here at the Barn Owl and we couldn’t be without her. It seems Adam (our Manager) feels the same way as they have been a couple since way back, after meeting in music class when they were just 14 years old (ahhh).

They have worked in pubs together for years, with Chelsea taking a short break to work in Marketing which she studied at university. She loves being a part of the local community and enjoys keeping in touch over social media (when they can’t bear in the pub that is!).

Chelsea’s favourite food... well we couldn’t get a winner out of her, but she did share her top three of: her mum’s homemade lasagne, carbonara and baked camembert. That sounds like the dinner of champions to us. When away from the pub, you’ll find her on long walks with Adam, Terry and Lotti (their two Jack Russels) in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us.

Chelsea and her family are from France - Troyes, the capital of Champagne no less. They moved over when she was 10, but we are all packed and ready to head back over for a guided tour whenever you’re ready Chelsea.

Beky

Assistant Manager

Beky joins us from a varied career in hospitality and care over the last 17 years – needless to say, we are very excited to have her coming on board with us at the Barn Owl with all of her experience.

Beky’s dream trio is coffee, cheese and ice cream (not all together!). So, if you ever need inspiration for a birthday or Christmas pressie – you’re covered with any of those three.

Beky loves reading and when asked what her favourite genre was, she replied ‘ANYTHING’. Also a lover of country music, a good series and her favourite film ever ‘a walk to remember’. If all of her talents and passions weren’t enough – she also bakes! Who doesn’t love a baker?!

We think Beky is going to fit in very well and she can’t wait to get behind the bar to meet everyone!

Assistant Manager

After spending five years living in Manchester, Scott gained plenty of experience working across the city’s busy and vibrant hospitality scene. During that time, he worked in a variety of venues, developing a real passion for the industry and for creating great experiences for guests.

Having recently moved back home to be closer to family, Scott brings that experience with him and enjoys being part of a team that helps create a welcoming atmosphere.

Outside of work, he loves making the most of his downtime, whether that’s jetting off somewhere sunny, heading to the mountains for a ski trip, catching live music at a concert, or spending an afternoon in a pub garden with friends when the weather’s good ( or even mildly average really )

George

Assistant Manager

George is our newest assistant manager, and he's settled in very well. He's got that easy, steady presence that fits right into the crew, bringing a mix of dry humour, quiet competitiveness, and proper local taste.

His sports of choice are skiing and golf, even if he never wins.

George's go-to drink is a classic Moondance from Triple FFF Brewery.

Amber

Supervisor

If she’s not pulling pints with a smile, you’ll probably find her planning her next big adventure. She’s set her sights on the film industry, dreaming of working behind the scenes on blockbuster movies. A passionate traveller, her favourite destination so far has been Thailand, but she’s already gearing up for her next journey across South America. Until Hollywood calls, we’re lucky to have her as part of our crew.

Hattie

Chambers

Hattie has a very interesting life story! Before life here at the Barn Owl, she used to run a hotel and host chalets in France. Switzerland has become her second home too, since her sister lives there and she loves heading off to visit whenever she can.

She's also got an African Grey parrot called Frodo, who's every bit as cheeky and clever as the name suggests.

Hattie brings a bright, outdoorsy, quietly adventurous vibe to the crew, with a mix of Swiss mountain cool and Frodo-fuelled chaos that makes her unforgettable.

Ashley

Way

Ashley has a big, lively energy that fills a room straight away.

As a mum of five, she’s definitely mastered the art of juggling chaos with humour, and she brings that same spark wherever she goes.

On her days off, you’ll find Ashley unwinding in the garden, getting stuck into her allotment and growing her own vegetables.

George

Bar/Waiting

George plays football for Badshot Lea FC and has recently bounced back from major knee surgery with impressive determination. His love for the fitness lifestyle shows in everything he does, making him a reliable and energetic presence here.

Nicola

Bar/Waiting

Always on the move, always smiling. Nicky loves the gym, thrives on staying active, and keeps life interesting with a variety of jobs. She’s a true people person with a big heart for her family and it shows in every shift!

Jonny

Johnston

Jonny’s got a proper love for anything vintage and loud. He collects records, always hunting for something rare or something with a bit of history behind it. He drives a cool car, and he’s obsessed with old cars, the kind you have to talk about, tinker with, and show off. He also loves a good night out on the town!

Holly

Warnes

Holly is one of those people who instantly makes the space feel lighter. With her psychology studies, she's great at understanding people and always seems to know how to make someone feel comfortable or included.

Holly has got a fun competitive streak from her county swimming days, which shows up mostly in her love of a good laugh and a friendly challenge.

When Holly isn't competing in a friendly challenge, she's got a soft spot for sausage dogs, the long, stubborn, adorable kind.

Bee

Mears

Bee has a brilliant, unmistakable presence. Her partner Stu is a chef in the kitchen here, so Bee feels like part of the place even before she walks through the door.

On her days off, Bee is the one who brings her cats to the pub in their pushchair, rolling in like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Bee is big into tattoos, always planning the next piece or showing off something new. She has got a fun, easy vibe, a bit of chaos in the best way, and a personality that everyone remembers.

Chloe

Nimmo

Chloe's just finished her A-levels and already has her sights set on travelling, maybe interrailing, definitely a route that involves stopping in Italy anyway! She's got that curious, upbeat energy of someone ready to see the world, meet new people and collect stories along the way.

Athena

Bar/Waiting

Athena is studying linguistics at King's College London next year. When she's not analysing language, she's either busy drawing her favourite musicians or reading.

She's also a devoted wine lover, making her a natural fit behind the bar with impeccable taste and a great sense of humour.

Emi

Thorburn

Emmy has the bright, excited energy of someone who's just finished her A-levels and is ready for the world. She's heading off travelling to Australia, already dreaming about beaches, sunshine, and the adventure ahead.

When she's not working with us, she loves a good shopping day and never says no to a piña colada.

Kitchen

Max

Pemberton

Max is full of great stories! Starting with his middle name, Moose, inspired by a cricket team.

He loves smoking beef brisket, usually with a Camden Pale Ale nearby, and he's got a musical streak from his trumpet-playing days. Max is a great member of the crew, easygoing, very funny, and always up for a chat.

Kurt

Hill

Kurt's got a proper mix of sport, energy and personality. He's a professional ultimate frisbee player, the full athletic, fast-paced, competitive kind. When he's not on the pitch, he's hosting his own football and F1 radio station, Wey Valley Sport, where he chats matches, motorsport and everything in between.

Vinnie

Ashley

Vinnie's got a sharp eye for fashion and always turns up looking put together.

This is Vinnie's first stint in the kitchen, and he's thrown himself into it with proper enthusiasm.

Outside of work, he's all about his two Jack Russells, Roxy and Reggie.

Toby

Cook

Toby's got a cool, understated vibe. He's into DJing techno, creating proper rhythm-driven sets that he puts together with real focus. When he's not working on music, he's usually talking sports bikes, keeping up with new models or planning the next ride. He's easy to get along with, keeps things relaxed, and brings a steady, laid-back energy to the crew.
