May Day Garden Party

Monday 4th May

May has long been a time for gathering - a moment in the year to mark the arrival of spring with a little celebration. Since Roman times, communities have come together to welcome the season with feasting and dancing. It later became the May Day Bank Holiday we recognise today, officially being made a public holiday in 1978.

Being a country pub at heart, it felt only right to mark the occasion with a proper May Day Garden Party on Monday 4th May - a chance to celebrate the season and enjoy a little traditional, easy-going fun.

And what could be more fitting than Morris dancing? We’re delighted to welcome the Shrewsbury Morris Dancers, a wonderfully spirited group dedicated to keeping this part of our heritage alive - and this year, celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Here’s what’s planned for the day:

Shrewsbury Morris Dancers from 1:30pm, with three performances throughout the afternoon

Live music, with Heidi Brown from 12:30pm and Callum J Wright from 3:30pm

Traditional garden games for all ages

Barbecue and pop-up bar in the garden, weather permitting

It’s a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon, and there’s no charge to attend - simply pop along and join in the fun.

If you’d like to join us for lunch indoors, you’re very welcome to book a table here.
