About Us

Here is just a little info to let you get to know us better...

History

Here is little potted history of our pub and the local area... if you have a spare minute or two and maybe a cup of tea (or is that a G&T), we think it's well worth read.

If you'd like to put a name to a face, allow us to introduce you to the crew...

Front of house

Lydia

Manager

Lydia, our fun loving Landlady. Lydia has worked for Brunning and Price since 2014 starting off as bar waiting staff at the Aspinall Arms then working her way to Haighton Manor moving up to Assistant Manager then to Deputy Manager before being offered Landlady at the Bull. She loves to spend her days off with Ashley, her two ponies Izzy and Dublin and her fur baby, Jeff.

Tonya

Deputy Manager

After helping out part-time, Tonya has joined us full time as our Deputy Manager. With 10 years in the hospitality industry and 9 of them running around a hotel. She is very happy to be out of a suit and back in the pub trade!

Tonya was previously a zookeeper until she found herself a new passion when starting as a waitress part-time and decided to swap careers! Although, her love for animals will always be there, with her 2 dogs at home and her 2 owls (all of which named after her favourite sweets!)

You will always know when Tonya is on shift as you can't miss her bright green car which she has conveniently named 'The HULK'

Rebecca

Deputy Manager

Bex as she's fondly known started back in 2016 as bar waiting crew on the weekends. Over the years she has worked hard to climb the ladder at the Bull. Bex has now joined us here as Deputy Manager. She loves every four-legged friend that comes into the pub and is the best auntie to our pub dogs, Jeff and Juke. She has a passion for good food and fruity gin.

Donna

Trainee Assistant Manager

Donna joined our crew before we first opened our doors in November and has brought enthusiasm and charisma to the team (as well as being the mum of the group). She has a passion for baking delicious sweet treats and even brings them in regularly for us all to eat! It's a good thing we are on our feet for most of the day...

Outside of work she loves to go walking with her partner Wayne and also loves the odd rave to blow off some steam. Family is everything to Donna and we are over the moon she's chosen to join ours!

Molly

Bar/Waiting

Molly has worked here longer than anyone, she started before it was part of Brunning and Price. So if you want to know any of the history, she is the one to speak to!

When she isn’t at the pub, you will find her looking after her many animals at home including her dogs, horses, guinea pigs and cats. You will more than likely see her and her 3 dogs on our monthly dog walks.

In between all this, she likes to enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail or two!

Matt

Bar/Waiting

Matt joined the Nelson as his first hospitality role. After being shown the ropes he has quickly settled in to be an integral part of the team. Outside of work he plays tennis, writes and enjoys music as well as playing the saxophone. He has a passion for quality customer service and manages to make staff and customers laugh in the process!

Laura

Bar/Waiting

Laura has previously worked in the industry on and off since the age of 17 and is now training to be an Operating Department Practitioner at university. Laura recently moved to Harrogate in May as her husband was posted within the Army, they live with their 3-year-old daughter and cocker spaniel, Alfie.  Laura came to the Nelson for a few drinks with her husband and experienced the atmosphere of the pub and wanted to join our team.

Whilst not at work or placement within theatres in the local hospitals, Laura enjoys travelling, trying new restaurants and drinking all types of gin. She also enjoys visiting valley gardens with her daughter or going out walking as a family taking in North Yorkshire.

Kitchen

Adrian

Senior Sous Chef

Adrian has been a chef for 9 years and loves the adrenaline of working in the kitchen. Originally from Romania Adrian knew the chef life was for him when he ventured over to the UK 9 years ago and couldn’t imagine himself doing anything else!

Adrian loves to do ‘market research’ going to new restaurants, trying new cuisines, spices and wine!

Ashley

Head Chef

Ashley is our big teddy bear Head Chef, he takes great care in his presentation and work. He joined the company as Sous Chef at Haighton Manor and quickly progressed to Head Chef. When he's not working he spends his days off with Lydia and the Ponies and his pub doggies Jeff and Duke. He likes to think he has a good sense of humour.... note the word 'think' as half the time we just think he's nuts!

Ru

Senior Sous Chef

From the age of 16, Ru 'fell' into the hospitality industry as a kitchen porter and has made his way up the ranks to Senior Sous Chef. Ru joined us in January and has quickly become a key team member with his dad jokes and infectious laugh (his cooking is alright as well).

In his spare time Ru loves to travel around the world, experiencing new cultures and when he is not globe trotting he relaxes playing video games.

Maintenance

Michael

Gardener/Maintenance Person

Michael is a farmer boy at heart, he started working on farms from the age of 11 and still continues outside of his job here at the Nelson. His favourite thing to do on the farm is being outside, looking after the stock. If handling two jobs isn't enough, Michael is a full time dad to his fur baby Bob the border collie who loves the outdoor lifestyle too. Since joining our pub from the opening he helps to maintain our lovely terrace and is our very own Mr Fix It!
