Front of house

Jon Astle-Rowe

Manager

Jon (affectionally known as JAR) has been with B&P for many years, having joined as a starry-eyed young spark some 25 years ago. Over those years he's opened and managed just about every various sized operation, dotted around the country. Jon's grown up kids have flown the nest and so when the opportunity to move to the Roe Deer came up, Jon and his wife Wendy decided to make the move to the Midlands. In his spare time, Jon enjoys the country life and walks with his beloved dog Poppy, usually to a pub - for research of course.

Simon Joyce

Deputy Manager

Simon is new to B&P but has all the credentials that we look for in our new crew, sharp in dress and mind, he will be a great asset to the pub. He's lived in Wordsley all his life and is super excited that the house has been turned into the thing he loves most a brilliant pub. He has fond memories of him and his mates' crab appling and swimming in the pool when young. Simon lives close to the pub with his wife Charlotte. When not working he is doing further research on everything drink and food.

Hannah Rowley

Junior Deputy Manager

Hannah is swopping across from the Fox at Newport where she has been there for 4 years with a spell in a trendy Italian Wine bar in York, but the draw of a real proper British pub was too much, and she returned back to the fold. Hannah is happy delving into everything food and drink which has been an intricate part of her life from her childhood, with both her Dad & brother now running the famous Buttercross farm foods business. Hobbies again are centred round her passion of gins and to be fair all food and beverage going, so a real sampler of everything new and upcoming.

Connor Westwood

Trainee Assistant Manager

Connor is another local lad that has lived in Wordsley all his life, so has great some great insider local knowledge. Connor has also worked at most of the local hostelries in his time, so you'll all recognise his warm and friendly face as you come to the bar. Connor has a few hobbies which include football, golf and camping or anything outdoors to be fair, he also loves saving up for holidays which is an intrinsic part to his happy disposition.

Matthew Berrington

Assistant Manager

Matthew is new to Brunning and Price but no stranger to the local area having previously worked at the nearby Lawnswood pub. Matthew's great passion in his work is beer and keeping the cellar in tip top condition so when he's not working on the bar recommending his latest choice of cask ale you'll no doubt find him in the cellar, tapping and venting and generally nurturing the wide ranges of beers that we have on tap. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys socialising and cycling and is particularly keen on science and nature. We've heard that in the past he's owned a number of exotic animals - not a hobby for the faint hearted - but we'll let him share details of these with you if you dare to ask!

Kitchen

Luke Wilcox

Head Chef

Luke joined us in January 2017 but is no stranger to the world of B&P. Luke has been with the company since 2011 and through hard work and passion for great food and worked his way up the ranks. For two years previous, Luke has helped train and open all our new pub kitchens, locally The Oakley in Brewood and The Physician in Birmingham and also run the kitchen at the Woodbridge Inn, Coalport. Luke is a rising star in B&P and we are extremely lucky to have his talent here at the Inn. When not behind the pass, he enjoy treating his girlfriend Kat to some nice meals out - letting someone else cook for a change and is an avid Ed Sheeran fan.

Jack Worrall

Sous Chef

Jack is our very own "Jack in the Box". As soon as the sun rises he springs into life, literally. He is a fun loving, hardworking, crazy (in a good way), adventurous chap who loves nothing more than to keep everyone entertained. Jack hasn't given up on his main dream, which is to perform on stage in the West End. In his spare time he loves a good gym session, and secretly enjoys baking fairy cakes, which by the way, taste fabulous!

Richard Pearson

Sous Chef

Having worked at the Inn at Shipley as a Chef de Partie and the Woodbridge Inn as a Sous Chef, Richard certainly knows the way a B&P kitchen operates and is looking forward to the challenge to the opening of the Roe Deer which gives him the chance to put some of his dishes on the menu. When not in work, Richard enjoys football & pool, but anything that includes a competitive element.

Scott Oakley

Chef de Partie

With a degree in Biochemistry and Forensic Science and a Masters in in toxicology Scott is our resident proper scientist! Working part time as a chef whilst at university gave Scott the bug for a career in professional cookery and he since went on to gain lots of cheffy experience in a variety of foodie pubs. We're delighted that he's decided to join the kitchen brigade at the Roe Deer and look forward to sampling any experimental foodie concoctions in the future. In his spare time football golf fishing and general socialising.

Csaba Hartvig

Chef de Partie

Csaba hails from Hungary where he studied professional cookery and worked in a variety of restaurants of different cuisines including Hungarian, Italian and Asian. Since moving to the UK in 2015, Csaba has continued to expand his cheffing experience. With his strong work ethic, positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Csaba is another great asset to the team. In his spare time, Csaba in free time playing guitar and video games.

Joe Warner

Chef de Partie

Since finishing his formal professional chef training and qualifications Joe has gained great experience in a variety of professional kitchens and so he joins the brigade at the Roe Deer raring to go. Joe's a hard-working chef who loves to take pride in the quality and presentation of his dishes. In his spare time gym and chilling

Oliver Corns

Commis Chef

Oli aka 'mummy's little solider' has been with us since the very start. He is in his eyes the most important person in the building, and the truth is we actually think he is too! He makes the best brews and is always happy. 'The Inn's little soldier' keeps everyone smiling.

Lucy Watkins

Commis Chef

Lucy joins the brigade with lots of experience in the industry, more recently as the owner of her own business. Lucy's main speciality up until now has been producing delightful desserts so she's in good company at the Roe Deer. With her strong customer service ethic and cheerful, friendly manner we're looking forward to her joining the team and sharing her passion for food. In her spare time, Lucy ice skating and fishing
