The Mytton & Mermaid is beautifully positioned in the village of Atcham, just outside Shrewsbury, on the banks of the River Severn. Originally built as a private house around 1725 for Richard Hill of Tern Hall—now the National Trust’s Attingham Park, which sits opposite—the building has a rich and colourful history. Renamed in the 1930s by renowned architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of Portmeirion, the hotel takes its distinctive name from the local character ‘Mad Jack’ Mytton and the mermaid emblem of the Portmeirion Hotel.

A short drive away, the historic town of Shrewsbury offers timber-framed buildings, independent shops, and riverside walks, while Attingham Park invites visitors to explore its elegant mansion and sweeping parkland.
