Harvested from 30-year old vines, the grapes are dried under the Italian sun for 10 weeks to produce this golden dessert wine with its intense, candied fruit aroma and hints of spice and exotic fruit. Will knock your socks off.

Light and fruity

Hints of cherry and spice with a full body that nevertheless finishes cleanly. Great on a summer's day, so get that handkerchief knotted and catch some rays.
Cotes de Nuits Villages 2003, Nicholas Potel, Burgundy, France £32.50
The earthy nose of cherry and liquorice tells you this is proper kit - the subtlety and finesse of this fine Burgundy is a welcome relief from those interminable one-dimensional New World fruit bombs.

Warm and spicy

Flying its flag proudly from the battlements of the Chapoutier house, this Rhone has a violet perfume and gentle pepper-tinged body of complexity and depth.

'Friend of the poor pisano and delight of the pompous patron'. This is a soft, slightly sweet, hombre with gentle tannins and bucket-loads of soft berry fruits.

A stunning Claret. Dense in colour with aromas of cherries and perfumed violets that flow into one of the most harmonious palates of the 1998 vintage. Outstanding.
Rich and plummy

A rich, dark baked Christmas cake of a wine with a nose of sun-dried raisins. Similar to Barolo in character- just not as brutal.

The king of Veronese wines. Ruby red with a deep bouquet of smoky chocolate, a rich, spicy palate and soft, subtle tannins. Boy oh boy.
Cotes du Rhone Villages, Mas De Libian, Khayyam 2005, France £23.95
A classy Rhone wine bursting with blackcurrant and blueberries and just a hint of spice. Full bodied, yet well balanced, and oozing finesse.
Barolo Ciabot Berton 2001, Italy £42.00
'The King of wines- the wine of Kings'. Heavy but fantastically smooth. Complex on the nose with hints of tobacco, and flavours of ripe strawberries, chocolate and liquorice.
Rosé
Chateau La Gravette, France. £2.80 £15.95
Think of summer. Think of strawberries and cream. Think of the smell of wild flowers from the meadow and endless sunny days and you'll be on the right track.
R.H Phillips, White Zinfandel USA £17.95
Vivid blush colour. Like chilled summer berries in the Californian sunshine.
Campo Lagaza Rosado, Spain £2.80 £15.95
Well balanced fruit with a dry finish. Easy drinking rosé, a quaffer's quaffer.
