This intriguing and beguiling wine is an intense, honeyed mouthful with hints of orange marmalade and ginger. The bottle is big enough for four (just).
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Passito Tordiruta 2002, Italy		£29.50
Harvested from 30-year old vines, the grapes are dried under the Italian sun for 10 weeks to produce this golden dessert wine with its intense, candied fruit aroma and hints of spice and exotic fruit. Will knock your socks off.

A soft and fruity, yet typically flirty, Italian red with good mouth grip.
Light and fruity
Chianti Ruffina 2004, Italy		£19.95
Hints of cherry and spice with a full body that nevertheless finishes cleanly. Great on a summer's day, so get that handkerchief knotted and catch some rays.
Cotes de Nuits Villages 2003, Nicholas Potel, Burgundy, France		£32.50
The earthy nose of cherry and liquorice tells you this is proper kit - the subtlety and finesse of this fine Burgundy is a welcome relief from those interminable one-dimensional New World fruit bombs.

Light, soft summer fruits and a velvety smooth finish. Just the ticket after a day rounding up the Alpaca in your best poncho.
Smooth and earthy

A real touch of class- it sounds posh and tastes posher. Has all the qualities you look for in a Bordeaux, with soft, plummy fruit, an earthy palate and a long, complex finish.
Warm and spicy

A full and round palate with a lovely kick of spice and a soft, drying finish.

Freshly crushed blackcurrants with subtle, oaked edges: the richness of a young Claret with the depth of a mature wine. Succulent, unlike most inexpensive Bordeaux. (Magnum: £29.95).
d'Arenberg The Stump Jump 2005, Australia		£18.95
Big, bold and spicy. A Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre blend from McClaren Vale, juicy blackcurrants and plums finish with chewy tannins and long-lasting pepper. If you favour bold reds then this will hit your sweet spot.
Crozes Hermitage, Les Meysonniers 2005, Northern Rhone, France		£26.95
Flying its flag proudly from the battlements of the Chapoutier house, this Rhone has a violet perfume and gentle pepper-tinged body of complexity and depth.
Duque de Visea, Dao, Portugal		£15.50
Portuguese wine is the new kid on the block and this vibrant, full-bodied and delicious wine shows it has potential. Have some. Trust me, please, just trust me.
Chateau Les Amoureuses, Rhone, France		£27.00
Glossy raspberries in abundance on the nose with a grind or two of black pepper adding delicate spice to mellow fruits. Has a long, long layered finish that keeps inviting you back for more.
Jewel Collection Old Vine Zinfandel, USA 2003		£19.95
'Friend of the poor pisano and delight of the pompous patron'. This is a soft, slightly sweet, hombre with gentle tannins and bucket-loads of soft berry fruits.
Chateau Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac, Saint-Emillion, France		£42.00
A stunning Claret. Dense in colour with aromas of cherries and perfumed violets that flow into one of the most harmonious palates of the 1998 vintage. Outstanding.
Rich and plummy
Cape Mentelle Cabernet Merlot, Austraila		£29.95
From the Margaret river region where the very best Aussie wines are made. Truly elegant, with blackcurrant aromas, chocolate and smooth cassis flavours and a hint of liquourice and cedar.

A classy Rhone wine bursting with blackcurrant and blueberries and just a hint of spice. Full bodied, yet well balanced, and oozing finesse.

'The King of wines- the wine of Kings'. Heavy but fantastically smooth. Complex on the nose with hints of tobacco, and flavours of ripe strawberries, chocolate and liquorice.
