Clean but rounded

Fresh Sauvignon without the edgy steel of some European examples - alluring tropical fruit makes for very easy drinking.
Henri Ehrhart Muscat d'Alsace Reserve 2005 - France 17.95
This has lovely honeysuckle and peaches on the nose with great weight and flavour in the mouth. Truly deserves to be a favourite.
Mas Du Libian Viognier 2006 Coteaux de L'Ardeche - Rhone 23.95
Honeyed, opulent, aromatic and floral. Luscious 'white peachy' fruit with white pepper overtones lead to an unexpectedly mineral finish.
Feudi di San Marzano Bianco Salento - Italy 2.90 15.95
A fresh, gutsy white that comes from Puglia in Italy's deep South. Honeysuckle aromas are followed by a mix of lemon, apricot and apple fruits.
Jean Paboit Pouilly Fume - France 27.95

CJ Pask Chardonnay - Hawke's Bay, New Zealand 22.95

Fruity and aromatic
Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc - Marlborough, New Zealand 25.95

Rich and full

One step up from dry, but it never gets cloying - fish leap at the chance to be consumed by its side.

Smooth and earthy
Bodega Lar de Barros - Spain 3.00 16.95
Aged in oak with intense aromas of blackberries and liquorice with just a hint of vanilla. Top notch easy Spanish drinking.

Ripe, glossy raspberry bouquet, spiced with a touch of black peppercorn with a long, long finish.
Arjona Rioja - Spain 3.20 17.95
Lovely cherry flavours with a hint of vanilla, this simple unoaked Rioja has had a touch of gently oaked Crianza added for an extra dimension..
Tanners Claret - Bordeaux France 3.40 18.95
Much inexpensive Bordeaux can be dried out, hollow and dusty, but not this juicy, rounded little number which displays a proper, grown-up farmyard character.

This has a lovely weight of fruit, balanced by good structure and pleasing complexity. Soft blackcurrant flavours are backed up with ripe tannins.

Franschhoek Cellar Pinotage - South Africa 3.10 17.50
The product of crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsault, Pinotage is South Africa's unique grape. This example is softly styled with intense blackberry fruit and mocha overtones.
Warm and spicy
Alto Pampas Pinot Noir - Argentina 2.90 15.95
Lovely easy drinking from an often difficult grape.
J and F Lurton, Fitou Cuvee des Ardoises - France 22.95
A rich, spicy red with elegant tannins and a long finish. There's a bit more weight to this one than the average Fitou.
Aresti Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile 2.70 14.95
A substantial Cabernet with a rich, ripe fruit character. It's a real friend of anything that's wandered in off the green pastures for an appointment with the fiery Mr Grill.
Chateau Villerambert L'Opera Minervois - France 19.95
Minervois fired from an Old World French cannon - this is a dark, deep garnet-red wine with good structure, power and concentration.
Crozes Hermitage Cave de Clairmonts - Rhone, France 24.95
With a lovely deep purple colour, this appealing wine has obvious blackberry fruit with good depth and rounded tannins. Spicy on the finish .
Duque de Visea 2002, Dao - Portugal 16.95
Vibrant, full-bodied and delicious - the new kid on the block, but well worth a go.
Chateau Musar 1999, Bekaa Valley - Lebanon 34.95
Legendary Lebanese estate that has a 6,000 year old wine producing history started by the Phoenicians. Ripe, spicy fruit with lashings of leather.
Marques De Borba Alentejo - Portugal 19.95
Made from a grape no one has heard of, but who cares, it's full of luscious fruit, so live dangerously and give it a go.
Rich and plummy
Remi and Jerome Syrah - France 2.90 15.95
A full and spicy Shiraz overflowing with soft juicy blackberries and damsons with plenty of Southern French warmth to top it off. Lovely stuff.
Le Carredon Merlot - France 14.95
A plummy easy drinking style with hints of caramel. Cries out for a second bottle.
Saint Roch Chateauneuf du Pape 2001 - France 36.95
This wine is blessed by the Gods. It is almost sacremental.
Campo de Oro Carmen Carmenere 2005 - Rapel Valley, Chile 3.20 18.00
Full, fat and rounded with oodles of fruit and intense aromas of raspberries and dark chocolate. Interesting and excellent.
Ladera Verde Merlot - Chile 2.70 14.95
Lovely plummy Merlot fruit with typical Chilean ripeness. Easy and very drinkable.
Christian Moueix Pomerol - Bordeaux France 29.95
This has lovely, plummy fruit, is soft and concentrated, but also long and elegant.
Fifth Generation Shiraz Cabernet - Australia 2.90 15.95
Typical Aussie red just bursting with black fruit and spice..
Dark and satanic
House of Certain Views Shiraz 2005 - Orange, Australia 21.00
This powerful baby delivers blackberry fruit flavours with an elegant smokiness - unfiltered for extra flavour so go easy on the last swig.
Ripassa Valpolicella 2004, Zenato - Italy 32.00
A rich dark-baked Christmas cake of a wine with a nose of sun-dried raisins. Sublime, my absolute favourite.
Amarone della Valpolicella 2002 - Italy 40.00
A dark brooding Italian grandfather of a wine with hints of chocolate, cherries, liquorice and tar. Allegedly Hannibal Lector's original wine of choice.
Pudding wine
Tokaji Aszu 2004 - Hungary 15.95
Noble dessert nectar, an abundance of orange marmalade and ginger. Enough for four (just).
P. Sichel, Sauternes - France 21.00
Classic retro sweet stuff - a bit different to your usual sticky. This one also comes in a little bottle.
