Looked at this instead of one of those full-on petrol Alsaces, as Chile has significantly different sunshine, rainfall, and viniculture. See what the difference is: this is smoother and more floral, but is still distinctive in style.

A soft and fruity yet typically flirty Italian red with good mouth grip.
Light and Fruity
Cotes de Nuits St George, Nicholas Potel, Burgundy		37.00
The earthy nose of cherry and liquorice tells you this is proper kit - the subtlety of this fine Burgundy is a welcome relief from those interminable New World fruit-bombs.
Fleurie, George Duboeuf, Burgundy		19.95
This is velvety with floral fruit aromas, vanilla and butterscotch with good grip. A delicate wine.
Alto Pampas Pinot Noir, Argentina		16.50
This all that a new world Pinot should be, warm and loving with a good level of fruit that has had sun on its back. This has been given a little extra time on the vine to get a bit flabby and roll into the bottle, making a wine that's a bit like a good cardie on a winter's day.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Ca Brigiano', Italy	2.90	16.50
Made in the Abruzzi region of Italy, this wine is an attractive deep ruby colour, with a soft plummy palate.
Warm and Spicy

French-aged barrel and silky tannins, reveal layers of smoky meat with fine tobacco hints, and soft black pepper ending in a long and complex after taste.

Carmire is a grape variety local to Argentina. Strong intense wines with lots of bite and lovely fruit levels.

This great example from Rhone region has an abundance of floral, violet perfumes and a gentle pepper-tinged body, with both complexity and depth.

Freshly crushed blackcurrants with subtle, oaked edges: the richness of a young Claret with the depth of a mature wine. Succulent, unlike most inexpensive Bordeaux.
Smooth and Earthy

Dark garnet red with power and concentration, coupled with good French structure.

Opulent, perfumed violets precedes a solid tannic frame and intense, dark, rich, voluptuous fruit.
Chateau Plaisance, St Emilion Grande Cru, Bordeaux		24.95
A real touch of class - it sounds posh and tastes posher - the ripe Merlot and Cabernet fruit is softened by the gentle vanilla from the oak barriques: a supple and mellow wine.

Much inexpensive Bordeaux can be dried out, hollow and dusty, but not this juicy, rounded little number which displays a proper, grown-up farmyard character.

The Pomerol of the southern hemisphere, with up-front black fruits and fully matured tannins.

An entry level Bordeaux. Just open the bottle and start loving what the French do best.

A top notch Spanish red with lots of soft fruit and a touch of oak - Rioja in all but name.

18 months in American oak, then 24 months in the bottle before we can even see it. This makes for a wine that has rich complexity and textures that are to savour.
Chateauneuf- du-Pape, Domaine de la Solitude, France		34.00
Made by Lancon Pére and Fils, regarded as one of the best producers in the area. Described as making 'Masterful wines' by wine spectator. This wine has all the right credentials and does the business every time.
Rich and Plummy
Purisma Merlot, Chile		21.50
Top end Merlot in full cry - soft and smooth, with rich, soft tannins and a long finish.
Aresti Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Chile	2.90	15.95
The nose has sweet dark stewed fruit aromas with some notes of cassis and spice from the gentle oak ageing. On the palate it has ripe tannins that give structure and power to the blackcurrant fruit.
Canonbah Bridge Drought Reserve Shiraz, Australia		28.95
They call it drought Shiraz as heat is high, so grapes are smaller, intensifying the flavour and colour of the wine. This is a limited release of an exceptional wine that is reminiscent of liquorice when eating it. Oops I meant drinking..
Dark and Satanic
Cotes du Rhone Village, Mas de Libian, Khayyam 2005, France		23.95
A classy Rhone wine bursting with blackcurrant and blueberries and just a hint of spice. Full bodied, yet well balanced and oozing finesse.
Sierra Cantabria Cuvee Especial, Rioja, Spain		39.95
Deep red with deep bouquets, a wine that just takes you to a higher plain, with each loving sip revealing another intristing layer of a really classy wine.
Barolo Ciabot Berton, Italy		39.95
'The king of wines- the wine of kings' (G Arathoon). From the Piedmont region of Italy lives a little grape called the Nebbiolo. This little grape makes heavy but smooth wine.

Not as dry as the French version above, but equally as good.

Vivid blush colours. Like chilled summer berries in the Californian summer.

This lovable Italian thoroughbred with the mereist hint of red grape that gives it a kiss of light blush. From a vineyard just outside of Venice dating back to 1404.
