Staff
Front of house
Andrew Grant
Manager
Andy joined us in April of 2002 and was promoted to head chef in September 2003. He is a bit of a fit geezer, and professes to enjoy football, swimmimg, rugby, judo and golf - or is that just watching them on telly? In 2010 he made the move to front of house, and is now responsible for the whole shooting match: but he's taken to it like a duck to water, and is swimming around happily.
Jill Dowling
Deputy Manager
Jill was a teaching assistant at the school across the road and a regular customer at the pub, before deciding to jump behind the bar and join the crew - so instead of Jill giving us money, now we have to give her money - but we're very happy with the arrangement. She is a mother to four boys, so is used to a frantic life, and as a result, she really knows her football.
Sophie Lobejko
Deputy Manager
Apart from socialising, Sophie loves designing and making jewelery, collecting antiques and horse riding. She once travelled around the world in a month, and also enjoys travelling fast in her car, or would do if it wasn't for Mr Brunstrom, who is an occasional customer.
Gareth Hughes
Bar/Cellar person
Gareth is our superstar Bar/Cellarperson- much to the relief of the girls. He has a great nose for good beers, having worked in the industry for most of his life and running a pub in Jersey. When he is not working he enjoys cycling along the shores of Colwyn Bay, spending time with his family and listening to music.
Georgina Walker
Bar/Waiting Staff
Gina has been with us since 2006 and is the type of person every pub should have. She is friendly and down to earth, and is an absolute work horse. Gina, who is no stranger to a glass of white, has a daughter called Hanna who keeps her busy on days off.
Zoe Grant
Bar/Waiting Staff
Zoe is married to our manager Andy but she confirms to us she wears the trousers after last orders have been rung. They have a daughter called Olivia who is an absolute ray of sunshine. Zoe is also a lovely, friendly approachable person and is rally enjoying life in Upper Colwyn Bay.
Kitchen
Paul Rudd
Head Chef
Paul is another chef that came to us from the Queen’s Head along with Andy and Jonny (so we’d better not go there for a meal in the near future). Paul is very keen golfer and enjoys letting his hair down. He loves his music (young people’s) and is Mr Socialiser with some wicked dance floor moves. According to him, that is.
Jonathan Rathbone
Head Chef
Johnny came from the Queens Head at Glanwyddan to join the company while still doing his NVQ level 3, and has not looked back since - after all, he's the head chef now. He is a demon golfer on the side, and is a keen participant on the company golf days where he has an excellent track record.
Dean Edwards
Junior Sous Chef
Dean first joined us in July 2005 as part of our collection of Queen's Head refugees, and has come on leaps and bounds. He was promoted to the hot section very quickly when we went through a chef shortage, and has proved himself to be a quick developer. After a spell away we are delighted to have him back in the fold.
Paul Waywell
Junior Sous Chef
Paul took the Pen y Bryn shilling in 2009 after two years travelling through Australia as a nomadic chef. Like Jonathan, he is a very keen golfer and totally competitive, winning the B & P golf tournament last year.
Robert Williams
Kitchen Porter
Robert has been KP'ing for some 20 years, so he's just about got the hang of it by now. The waitresses all love him because he polishes the cutlery for them – he knows the way to a girl's heart. Bobby is a mad gardener and a great family man - he has five brothers and five sisters, would you believe, and has been with his partner for ten years.
Maintenance
Steven Phoenix
Gardener/Handyperson
Steve arrived before we even opened, when he planned, designed and landscaped the pub gardens, which were in a right old state. He is our full time gardener/handyman and fire-starter etc..if it needs doing, he will do it, especially if you ask nicely.
Phyllis Forsyth
Cleaner
Phyllis Forsyth is married to Toby and they have two grown up
boys and two grandsons. Phyllis was serving in the W.R.A.C when she met her husband and lived in Germany for six years enjoying the good life. She enjoys walking, music and entertaining her family, and a kinder person you couldn't hope to meet.
Ann Driver
Cleaner
Ann is a Yorkshire lass and proud of it. She emigrated to North Wales back in 1972 and claims she would never go back to her home town of Leeds because things are too hectic there. She loves gardening and walking with her husband, and is no stranger to the dance floor - in fact as a recent staff party suggests, she is a thorough-bred party animal.
Joanna Senkbeil
Cleaner
Jo is from Poland, and has lived in North Wales for three years. She is happily married and has a lovely son, and enjoys walking, reading and catching the odd movie. Jo claims to be an experimental cook and loves creating weird and wonderful dishes (sounds like the pub head chefs). She loves her job and is a popular member of the crew.
