Fullers - London Pride

London Pride

Fuller Smith and Turner’s Griffin Brewery has stood on the same site at Chiswick for more than 350 years, and direct descendants of the founding families are still involved with the business. London Pride is a multiple winner of the Champion Beer of Britain and travels well to our Northern pubs. Very easy to handle, it can arrive at 11.00 a.m., you can kick it around the cellar a couple of times, and serve it in perfect condition at 5.00 p.m. A complex, golden brown best bitter with a hoppy aroma and a distinctive malty base, it has a long dry malty finish with well developed hop flavours. It has a permanent listing at Pen Y Bryn and regularly appears at Harkers, the Armoury, the Cornmill and Glasfryn.

Original Bitter

Twelve beer enthusiasts from around the company worked with Tony Allen of Phoenix Brewery developing our own cask ale over a period of seven months. This version - brew No. 8 - was the one we were finally happy to put our name to. It was an arduous process, but we were prepared to make the personal sacrifice for the good of the cause.

Brewed using East Kent Golding hops with a touch of American Mount Hood hops for aroma, this has been fermented using a Timothy Taylor derived yeast. Tony used predominantly Maris Otter malts with a small amount of Crystal to give colour and body, and the water is sourced from Ullswater as it is particularly pure and soft.

This beer has a gentle and pleasant aroma with a fine dark gold/amber colour and a good creamy head that clings down the glass. Taste wise, this has a malty, fruity sweetness and a long, rounded but refreshingly dry finish.

Tring Brewery Company - Side Pocket for a Toad
3.6% ABV website
Side Pocket for a Toad
The Tring Brewery Company was founded in 1992 by Richard Shardlow who had brewed for Greene King, Ruddles and Devenish. This ended a ‘brewing drought’ of over fifty years in the eponymous picturesque West Hertfordshire. The majority of the ale names of Triing brewery are themed around intriguing ghostly tales, myths or sayings from the rich history of the area. This one is named after an old saying thereabouts for 'uselessness'. Hmm, we see the point. However, the ale is far from being so - if the quantities in which it is heartily quaffed at the Old Orchard are anything at all to judge by. Indeed this straw coloured brew is a very tasty tipple. With a slight floral aroma it has gentle citrus notes from the US Cascade hops with a dry, crisp finish. And the low strength means you won't be feeling a liitle 'side pockety' too quickly.
