From the heart of Paarl, bags of yellow tropical fruits, pear and guava leap out like gazelles from the bush.
Grenache/ Sauvignon, Les Terrasses - France 2.50 14.50
Cheeky little fruity French number from the Rhone valley: mint and lemon with a nice mineralic finish.
Chardonnay, Wombatt Hill Classic Reserve - Australia 3.00 16.95
An Aussie glugger - easy drinking with a clean, crisp finish.
Clean but rounded
Pouilly Fumé Carte Noir, 2005 - France 31.50
Selected from the best vines, this has a voluptous, creamy and well rounded mouth-feel with classic Sauvignon flavour. Part time drinkers need not apply. This is for the grown ups.
Sancerre, Vincent Delaporte - France 25.50
Classic in style with sack loads of minerals and a lemon and lime finish.
Pouilly Fumé La Rambarde - France 25.00
This Loire beauty is great alongside anything with gills.
Sauvignon Blanc, Chateau Saint Florin Bordeaux - France 3.00 16.75
Great white Bordeaux that is deeply flavoured with bright fruits and a fresh lingering finish.
Sauvignon Blanc, Springfield Estate Special Cuvée - South Africa 23.50
Like sticking your tongue on a nine volt battery. Think of a good Sancerre then bung some tropical fruit in there. A winning combination.

Perfect for saying goodbye to a dreary day and hello to a happy night.
Gavi, La Chiara, Italy 22.95
100 percent Cortese grape, it's a top-notch aperitif as well as a good party wine. Order some food, or don't, it's up to you.
Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chailloux 2006 - France 32.50
A true balanced classic showing pure intense apple fruits, a definite mineral edge and a hint of peppermint.
Fruity and aromatic
Sauvignon Blanc, Wither Hills - New Zealand 22.50
Classic Kiwi kit, asparagus, grass and nettles, with lots of elegant fruit that just keeps going and going. This is mouth-wateringly moreish.
Chardonnay, Monteflores - Argentina 2.50 14.25
This went down a storm with the staff. Unusual and intrigueing with the addition of 15 percent Torrontes - go on, educate yourself.
Gewurtzraminer, Pfaffenheim - Alsace 19.00
Gewurztraminer literally means 'spicy grape' and if your nose works at all you'll soon see why.
White Rioja, Sierra Canatabria 2006 - Spain 18.95
A nice clean fruity number. Order a salad, crack open a bottle and cross your fingers for some sunshine.
Sauvignon Blanc, Aresti - Chile 2.70 15.25
Luscious and very gluggable, with well-balanced tropical fruit. Fantastic value.
Riesling Pfalz, JL Wolf - Germany 16.25
A gentle, fragrant and juicy wine with hints of apricots and peaches.
Sauvignon Blanc, Cloudy Bay 2006 - New Zealand 40.00
It's no wonder this is so hard to get your hands on these days. Classic top end Kiwi kit.
Rich and full
Chardonnay, Chateau de la Ragotierre - France 3.00 17.25
Fresh peachy aromas with big juicy Burgundian flavours make this one classy wine.
Pernand Vergelesses Campy - France 32.50
From the same slope as Corton Charlemagne. Crisp with honeyed fruits, this is a big beauty of a wine, with a price tag that is smaller than its taste.
Petit Chablis, Laroche - France 3.90 23.50
This wine packs in so many of the characteristics of its clay-limestone terroir you'd think you had fallen face first onto the vineyard floor. Delicate and fresh, light fruit wine.
Chablis, Domaine Laroche Premier Cru 2006 - France 30.00
Rich and rounded with toasty oak and buttery fruit with a classic mineral, acidic finish.
Rosé
Shiraz/ Cabernet Rosé, Le Grand Duc - France 2.80 15.50
Fresh and fruity but with a grown up feel to it. Cracking value for money.
Pinot Grigio Blush, Casa Defra - Italy 2.80 15.50
Did I see the sun poking through that cloud? Quick, open a bottle.

Simple yet classy bubbly from the Bouzy region.
Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Yellow Label 48.00
Affectionately know as 'The Widow', this is one of the best known and most enjoyed champagnes about.
Camille Saves Rosé 38.00
Delightfully light and fruity.
Laurent Perrier Brut Rosé 58.00
One of the nicest pink bubblies to come out of France. Go on chaps, impress the ladies.
Graham Beck Brut - South Africa 19.00
After a long day hunting gazelle or doing the laundry down at the watering hole, this is just the tipple.

Lightly sparkled and fruity, a fun wine for any time.

A soft and fruity, yet typically flirty, Italian red with good mouth grip.
Casa de Piedra Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile 2.40 12.95
New world easy-drinking laid-back honcho. Full bodied and fruity with a hint of oak.
Elegant and less weighty
Fleurie, Chateau de Raousset - France 25.50
Hints of blackberries with floral fruiy aromas. Strictly limited production.
Grenache/Merlot - Le Grand Duc 2.50 14.25
Hailing from Carpentras in the south of France, this is bright, well balanced and fruity. Easy quaffing wine for anytime of the day.
Cotes du Rhone, La Dive 2005 - France 3.00 17.50
Ruby red with cherries and spices. Big fleshy wine with smooth tannins.
Brouilly, Cuvée l'Ancienne 2006 - France 2.60 14.50
Cracking Beaujolais at an even better price. Light and fragrant, with plenty of fruit and a slightly spicy edge. Cracking lunchtime quaffer.
Nebbiolo, La Famiglia 2004 - Australia 22.00
Lighter in style than its brutal Italian brothers but still a good wallop of leather and rose petals on the palate.
Smooth and earthy
Merlot, Cusumano - Italy 2.50 14.25
Good grippy tannins and plummy fruits from a cheeky Italian.
Rioja, Fuenmayor Crianza 2003 -Spain 3.20 18.25
Soft and juicy that has seen a gentle thwack of oak, but lived to tell the tale.
Cote du Rhone, Chateau les Amoureuses - France 26.50
Ripe, glossy raspberry bouquet, spiced with a touch of black pepper corn, with bags of juicy raspberry fruitiness. A long, long layered finish keeps inviting one back for more.
Cabernet/Merlot, Chateau Meriguet Bordeaux 2006 - France 18.95
Fruity and well balanced. Crack open a bottle and enjoy what the French do best.
Tempranillo, Lar de Lares Reserva 2002 - Spain 20.00
This is a must-try wine. Bags of big berry fruits with fresh acidity and vanilla. Yummy.
Corbieres Rouge, Domaine St Eugenie - France 16.75
Intense aromas of red berries and earthy elements. A bit of spice and velvety tannins give cracking value from a stunning region.
Warm and spicy
Shiraz, Wombat Hill Classic Reserve - Australia 3.00 16.95
Rich dark black fruit and a splash of spice. No nonsense Aussie plonk.
Syrah, Remi and Jerome VdP - France 2.85 15.75
From vineyards just north of Narbonne: warm and spicy with blackberries and damsons.
Shiraz, Coriole MaLaren Vale 2005 - Australia 26.50
From one of the best boutique wineries in the Southern Hemisphere, this wine can floor a side of beef in seconds. Blackberry, pepper, spice and a touch of mint.
Cabernet Franc, Collio DOC - Italy 19.50
Intense ruby red colour with less tannins than a Cabernet Sauvignion. Benchmark wine from Livon in the North east coner of Italy.
Rioja Reserva, Dinastia Vivanico 2001 - Spain 28.50
Deliciosuly rounded mouthful with spicy oak, eucalyptus, black and red fruits. Toast and liquorice on the finish. This blew us away at a recent tasting.
Chateaneuf-du-Pape, Domaine De Nalys 2003 - France 32.50
Amber garnet with fruit and spices and a nice dry finish.
Rich and plummy
Merlot, Purisima - Chile 2.90 15.95
Merlot in full cry - soft and smooth, with rich, soft tannins - it does things to your taste buds that would be considered ever so slightly rude in some countries.
Merlot, C.J. Pask, Hawkes Bay - New Zealand 24.95
Leading the way for New Zealand Merlots. Deliciously soft, plummy fruits and an elegant finish.
Aglianico, Bellamico 2006 - Italy 2.60 14.95
Aglianico's power is all about its tannin and this won't disappoint. And we couldn't believe the price. Fill your boots while the going is good.
Shiraz/Sangiovese/Merlot/Tempranillo, Red Mullet, Clare Valley 2004 - Australia 22.50
Take four classic grape varieties. A dash of sunshine. Mix in 100 years of vinous heritage and bottle. Wait a couple of years then drink.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chateau Kefraya 2000 - Lebanon 35.00
Dark, solid, tannic thoroughbred from Bekka Valley. Move over Chateau Musar. This is proper kit for the hairy chested.
Chateau Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1998 - France 42.00
If you like St Emilion, you'll love this. It's an elegant, velvety, smooth and opulent cushion of lovliness.
Dark and satanic
Ripassa Valpolicella, Zenato - Italy 26.50
A rich dark-baked Christmas cake of a wine - quite a mouthful.
Old Vines Blend, Mendoza, Monteflores 2004 - Argentina 24.00
Harvested from high altitude vines giving more complexity from an extended growing season, this is one big mamma of a wine.
Amarone, Caterina Zardini - Italy 50.00
Cherry, almonds and vanilla. This is a wine of great intensity that never cloys the palate.
Barolo DOCG, Vigna Bricco Gattera - Italy 58.00
Quite possibly the finest Barolo right now. Winner of numerous awards. Ok its expensive - but you might die tommorrow.
Dessert wines
Rigoletto, S. Cristina - Italy 4.00 20.00
Elegant floral notes with a hint of bees wax. We like this stuff. Small enough for a few to share.
Passito, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Tordiruta - Italy 30.00
Ripe honey with bags of orange marmalade fruits.
