Front of house
Tracey Varley
Manager
Tracey has had a long and interesting career in the business, including cheffing at the Rothay Manor Hotel in Cumbria, then assistant, deputy and restaurant manager at Llyndir Hall Hotel, Rossett. This was followed by over 4 years working at the Pant with Duncan, Graham Arathoon and then Lindsey. She then moved to Philpotts Sandwiches in Chester, where she was a senior manager, before coming back to the fold in 2007.
David Christian
Deputy Manager
Surf man! In a previous decade Dave would have been hanging out with the Beachboys. Being of an aquatic nature, he has taught windsurfing in Greece for a few seasons, did a bit of work in his local boozer in Kelsall when he got back from abroad, liked the job, joined us and the rest is history. Dave has cornered the market in the loud shirt department, but if he hangs on long enough, the fashion is sure to come round again.
Joanna Wilson
Trainee Assistant Manager
Jo is our very own Baywatch babe who we stole from Panama Hattys
where she'd been for some five years. She tells us she's got her head screwed on because her and her boyfriend have just got their first house, but there again, she supports Man Utd - case unproven.
Kitchen
Stuart Green
Head Chef
Stuart’s hobby is cooking, so he is in his element. He hails originally from the town renowned for a world class rugby team, St Helen’s, and remains a keen supporter of Saints RFC to this day. He plays squash (all be it not since 2006) and enjoys the odd game of golf, believing that you should get as many swings for your money as you can. Stuart is married with two young children.
Alasdair Chalmers
Sous Chef
Alasdair comes from Neston on the Wirral and is a bit of a Motor head and thrash metal fan, but also makes a mean lemon sponge. He has lived and worked all over the country and joined us from Carden Park Hotel. As well as being a chef he also holds a truck drivers licence which could prove to be handy on a staff night out!
Kerrie Devine
Junior Sous Chef
Kerrie is a well travelled, cooking socialite who loves her work. She has spent a few years in New Zealand where she claims to have become quite the expert in hang gliding (proof yet to be provided). She is engaged to “some poor fella” who is also a chef and they share a fondness for deep sea fishing.
Hannah Chamberlain
Senior Chef de Partie
Hannah Chamberlain has been a chef since she left school, and held jobs at the Arkle and Carden Park before joining us. She has listed her interests as swimming, socialising, reading and collecting beer bottle tops. Strange, but true.
Philip Peacock
Senior Chef de Partie
Phil has joined us after a short stint (9 months) at the Cwellyn Arms in Caernarfon having returned from a 2 year travelling tour of the world- namely New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and Florida…it is evident that this is perhaps where he picked up his favourite past-time, that is, drinking and generally having a good laugh which is indeed what he likes to do. He fits in well with the other lads in the kitchen who all enjoy a beer or two at the end of the day..
John Freeman
Junior Chef de Partie
Even after riding his motorbike to work for nearly an hour every morning you’ll always see him with a smile on his face. John is a truely lovely bloke, he has a young daughter who he can’t stop talking about (aaaahhhh) and an array of awful jokes, which somehow make people laugh. He’s keen as mustard in the kitchen and throws everything into his job which is great for him and us.
Nicholas Blazey
Commis Chef
Affectionately known as “Nick Wrestler” because, well, he loves Wrestling! Nick started life at the Grosvenor as a KP and has worked his way up to trainee chef learning on the job and at college. You’ll often see Nick on the Chester nightlife scene in a waist coat and tie which, annoyingly, he can actually get away with, without looking like a boy-bander.
David Brunt
Kitchen Porter
Born in Sheffield, when there was a steel industry, Dave did nine years in the RAF
as an aircraft engine fitter - then worked in the motor trade as a mechanic. He is a keen Sheffield Wed supporter and likes motor sport, DIY and beer, like every other bloke on the planet (apart from the Sheffield Wednesday bit, that is).
Maintenance
Alan Cadman
Gardener/Handyperson
Al is a quiet bloke who loves his garden. A chippy by trade, he throws his hand to just about anything you ask him to around the pub. He is famous for a rather large pair of specs that he wears when he is doing the more fiddly jobs in the pub and once he puts them on he looks uncannily like Mr. Magoo. Diane Roberts
Cleaner
"Di bach" as we call her (with a heavy Welsh accent) brings a much needed touch of glamour to the often roughie toughie world of the KP, and the KP at the Grosvenor in particular (a previous occupant of this post was Psycho). Married with two children,Di likes nothing better on a Friday night than being tucked up in bed with some cocoa watching her favourite Welsh soap, Pobl y cum.
