Company Days Out - Beer Festival 2003

The happy group in the charabanc, abuzz with excitement

The pre-match photo

On August 7th, a fine cross section of 25 ladies and lads braved the heatwave and headed for London for Camra's annual beer-tasting extravaganza at Olympia.

We kicked off with a tasting of this year's champion beers - the Supreme Champion was Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted, at 3.8%, with Crouch Vale Brewer's Gold (4.0%) taking the silver and Lidstones Rowley Mild (3.2%) gaining bronze medal. A great start to the proceedings.

There was a strong lobby of opinion, particularly from Jill and the Armoury team that the Brewers Gold deserved the Champion tag-so maybe next year.

Of the beers that we are well acquainted with, our Beer of the Festival was Roosters Cream 4.7% closely followed by Oakham JHB 3.8% and St Austell Tribute 4.2%.

The pitch - not the most salubrious of venues

Post-match photo. Oh dear, oh dear

A spot of table footie and some silly hats. Oh dear

The crew are plainly upset that GP's photo will appear on the website

Beers that were lesser known or new to us that were well received were:

Enville Phoenix IPA 4.8% (Harkers' favourite)
Batham Best 4.3% (JT's bag)
Chiltern 300 5.0% (Armoury's choice)
Cheriton Diggers Gold 4.6%
Newby Wyke White Squall 4.8% (Dave's No 1)
Oulton Sunrise 4.0% (John Unsworth and Heugo's winner)
Atlas Latitude 3.6%
Hanby Cherry Bomb 6.0% (Hannah and Lisa's favourite - check the strength!)
Clarks Classic Blonde 3.9%
Durham White Gold 4.0%
Exe Valley Hope 4.3% (Ed's tip for the top)
Cains 2008 5.0% (Jon Astle-Rowe's biggy)

Tee hee hee
