    Light and crisp
Little J Grüner Veltliner, Jurtschitsch, Austria £23.15
A terrific dry white from Austria, this is full of zippy grapefruit character but with body and richness to back it up. This grape does not get enough of the limelight - it is a must for any wino.
La Sablette, Muscadet Sèvre Et Maine, France £22.95
A blast from the past - but this is groovy wine that deserves to be re-discovered. Like flares for instance, or hot pants.

Everything you want from a good Pinot Grigio, fresh, fruity and fun.
    Domaine Curot Sancerre, France £35.50
Ever wondered what is meant by a 'steely' Sancerre? With more steel than Sheffield, this is a classic example of the flinty, almost austere style that some consider to be the finest in the world.
    Aromatic or tropical
    J & H Selbach Riesling Hochgewachs, Germany £23.95
A gentle sweetness and a clean clip of acidity makes this a delicious aperitif and a wonderful partner to salmon and other oily fishy things.
    La Campagne, Viognier, France £16.95
A great example of this succulent grape variety that thrives under the Mediterranean sun. As the vines mature, they produce white wines with even more of that classic peachy-apricot flavour.
Riverstone, East Coast Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand £3.20 £19.35
Classic Kiwi kit - gooseberries and nettles, with lots of elegant tropical fruit that just keeps going and going. Mouth-wateringly scrumptious, and excellent value.

A mouth-watering find from Spain with tropical fruits that don't cloy, with honeydew melon on the finish.
    Etchart Privado Torrentes, Chile £16.95
The Torrentes grape has delicate soft fruit aromas with a beautiful palate backed up by plenty of body. The peach and orange flavours will keep enticing you back for one more sip.
Villa Wolf, Pinot Gris, Pfalz, Germany £23.95
Born in the Pfalz, a region just outside the infamous Alsace, this is an experimental choice, but trust me, if aromatic wine is your bag, then look no further.

A dry, full-bodied Sauvignon, with a lively grassy nose and a long finish.

A stunning white Burgundy, with delicious rich, buttery Chardonnay flavours enhanced by being matured in new oak. Classic stuff.
    Macon l'Aurore, France £21.95
Some less expensive white Burgundy can get a bit ponderous, but not this little number with its figure-hugging cloak of oak.
    Coldridge Chardonnay, Australia £3.10 £17.50
Easily approachable with its citrus and fig nose and strong fruit character.
    Chablis Lucien Tardieu, France £29.55
Tradional old-school Chablis - it's as French as Gérard Depardieu in a beret with a string of onions round his neck, pedaling his bicyclette home from the rugby having lost to Les Rosbifs.

Camille Savés Premier Cru Champagne, France £44.50
What a find this was, Premier Cru Champagne from the Bouzy (great word) region. Unusually for Champagne they grow their own grapes as well as making the wine.
    Pudding Wine
    Elysium, California Black Muscat, USA ( 37.5 c l ) £24.95
'Elysium' in Greek Mythology is paradise. Which without sounding too dramatic, pretty much sums up this pud wine. This will accompany any kind of dessert, in fact, you will want another pudding just so you can have another glurp of this stuff. Superb.

Soft, fruity and easy drinking Italian red wine.
    Light and fruity
    Villa Domiziano Chianti, Italy £18.65

Joseph Mellot, Chinon les Morinières. Cabernet Franc, France £19.95
The ancient vineyards of Chinon lie on slopes overlooking the Loire and this region's Cabernet Franc grape is typically crunchy but juicy and well-balanced. A delicate touch of vanilla-oak on the finish from the brief barrel ageing.
